L'anello delle 4 Province

In a remote and wild corner of the Piedmont Ligurian Apennines there are places where you can rediscover the pleasure of a slow-paced excursion along routes that for centuries have been a historic connection between the Po Valley and the Ligurian sea. Generations of muleteers, pilgrims and wayfarers have in fact plowed the "Salt Road” which crosses this very territory and of which we will cover a small stretch. These are places that have preserved an almost wild environmental dimension, it is not uncommon to spot wild animals (deer, roe deer, birds of prey) and with a bit of luck the wolf which is the undisputed master of these areas. Proof of this in recent years is the ridgeMount Ebro-Mount Chiappowas classified asSPA(Special Protection Area IT1180025). In addition to the fauna, during the route we will be able to admire many types of vegetation, ranging from the large summit prairies to the beech forests or some typical Mediterranean shrubs present on the south-facing slopes. The route is very panoramic, it takes place almost entirely on the ridge, reaching two peaks: Mount Ebro, which with its 1700 meters above sea level is the highest mountain in the province of Alessandria and Mount Chiappo also 1700 metres, which is the geographical point where the provinces of Alessandria, Pavia and Piacenza meet. From the peaks of these two mountains the view can range from the Ligurian sea to the Alps. It is a route suitable for everyone without any difficulty, the paths are wide and well traced and no stretch is exposed or dangerous. On the summit of Mount Chiappo we will be able to take advantage of the characteristic refuge of the same name and refresh ourselves with a hot dish. Have a good journey!

TECHNICAL AND LOGISTICAL DATA:

· Meeting: 9.50 am at Capanne  di Cosola

. Arrival: approx. 4pm Cosola huts

- EQUIPMENT: layered clothing, headgear, water, (hot meal at the Monte Chiappo refuge).
